Since 2014, I have been a technical writer and editor with Siemens Building Technologies in Milan, where I work on product documentation for the Desigo CC integrated building management platform. This involves collaboration with developers, testers and other experts, as well as with a documentation team spread across different global locations (the US, India, Switzerland, and Italy).
Dal 2014, presso Siemens Building Technologies a Milano, mi occupo di redazione e editing di documentazione tecnica, in lingua inglese, per la piattaforma Desigo CC per la gestione integrata degli edifici. From 2012 to 2016 I was also a technical editor for Form and Content Media. Projects I worked on include SPIE Newsroom (optics and photonics) and SPE Plastics Research Online (polymers). This involves helping authors of new research summarise their findings in a way that is accessible to non-specialists, but still scientifically accurate.
Dal 2012 al 2016 sono inoltre stata technical editor presso Form and Content Media, dove ho lavorato su progetti che comprendono SPIE Newsroom (ottica e fotonica) e SPE Plastics Research Online (polimeri). In the academic field, I work with authors from Italian universities, for whom I translate or edit research papers with a view to publication in English-language international journals, on subjects ranging from hydrology to management science. My main fields in technical translation include plastics processing machinery; quality, safety and environmental management systems; environmental remediation and industrial facilities.
In campo accademico, collaboro con autori presso diverse università e istitutioni italiane, effettuando traduzioni o revisioni di articoli al fine di ottenerne la pubblicazione in riviste accademiche internazionali, su argomenti che spaziano dall'idrologia all'ingegneria gestionale. I grew up mainly in South America and the Far East, before going on to finish high school in France (American School of Paris) and then to university in Scotland, where I obtained a Bsc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. After graduating I moved to Italy, where I worked as an electronics engineer and firmware/software programmer for various companies before setting up on my own, initially as a technical and scientific translator, and later as a technical writer and editor. I spent a few years in the Brianza lakes area, and currently live in a town north of Milan.
Cresciuta principamente in Sud America e in Estremo Oriente, ho completato le superiori in Francia (Scuola Americana di Parigi) e infine frequentato l'università in Scozia, ottenendo una laurea in Ingegneria Elettronica presso Heriot-Watt University a Edinburgo. Trasferitami poi in Italia, ho lavorato come ingegnere elettronico e progettista firmware/software presso varie aziende prima di intraprendere l'attività freelance, inizialmente come traduttore tecnico e scientifico, e più recentemente come editor e redattore tecnico. Dopo alcuni anni trascorsi in alta Brianza, attualmente vivo in un paese a nord di Milano.
I play tennis, practice yoga, and generally enjoy outdoor activities such as scuba diving, hiking, and cycling. I have always been an avid reader, of anything from 19th century fiction, to authors like Somerset Maugham, George Orwell and David Lodge, to non-fiction on topics like complexity, economics, neurology, and evolution, by authors such as Oliver Sacks, Douglas Hofstadter and Daniel Dennett. I continue to do some computer programming and web develoment for my own projects (the java simulations on this site are an example). My technological areas of interest are open standards, privacy protection, interoperability, the creative commons and the multilingual and semantic web.
Gioco a tennis, pratico yoga, e in genere amo attività all'aria aperta, come escursionismo, sub e bicicletta. Da sempre appassionata di lettura, mi piacciono in particolare la narrativa inglese e francese del XIX secolo, autori quali Somerset Maugham, George Orwell e David Lodge, e saggistica e divulgazione scientifica (es. Oliver Sacks, Douglas Hofstadter e Daniel Dennett). Continuo a programmare e sviluppare per progetti personali (le simulazioni java su questo sito sono un esempio). In campo tecnologico, sono interessata ai temi di interoperabilità, standard aperti, creative commons, e web semantico e multilingue.
